Increasing Philippines annual remittance from $25B to $30B
In August 2013, Assessment Fund’s Saleem Qureshi, in collaboration with its partners in Philippines, SFI Group, met with Governor Abet Garcia of Bataan province to discuss strategies on workforce development of the out-of-school youth.
In February 2014, a talent assessment was conducted with the support of Governor Garcia in the city of Limay. The goal of the assessment was to showcase to the Department of Education, and then to President of Philippines, Benigno Aquino III on the correlation between evidence-based curriculum development, and annual remittance (that the nation receives from its overseas workers).
Currently Philippines receives $25 billion in annual remittance from its 2.2 million overseas workers, of which 30% are laborers.
Going forward, Assessment Fund’s objective is to assist Philippines’ Department of Education in restructuring the curriculum so that the nation can increase its annual remittance to $30 billion (from $25 billion) by reducing the nations number of overseas laborers down to 25% (from 30%)
