Superior HR Strategies and Solutions 2009: A Forum

HCM_LHR2009The Human Capital Management 2009, a single-day forum spread over 3 comprehensive sessions, featured leading HR experts and thought leaders. Coming together under the banner of “Superior HR Strategies and Solutions for Challenging Economic Times”, the experts engaged the audience on strategic organizational topics of Human Resources & Leadership, Performance Management & Measurement, and Training & Development. The current economic downturn – arguably dubbed as Depression 2.0 – has brought to surface many important issues that would have been otherwise under not much consideration.

The trade of Human Resources has come of age. It is no longer the ‘necessary evil…..  a dark bureaucratic force…..  a career graveyard’ (reference: “Why We Hate HR,” Fast Company Magazine, Aug. 2005). It has come to be considered a strategic internal partner to the C-Suite, helping to shape organizational paths through successful human capital selection & development.

The recession, however, invites extraordinary business challenges. For organizations to not only survive the downturn, but also to be able to make a strong and sustainable comeback, HR needs to have a vantage point. It needs to be the ‘Alice’ who looks the looking glass and finds a world that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, but in an odd way.

The business world, during recession, over the past many decades, has been exactly that: a strange world with stranger experiences. And just like the character of Alice in Wonderland, the wonder of the land becomes the HR.

A never ending maze of never-seen-before experiences demands moves that define strategy itself. The human resources-organizational partnership, in order to come out stronger from the other side of the ‘glass’, must ensure sustainable systems that will ensure a long-term people-oriented approach to business decisions.

The panel discussion at the Human Capital management 2009 forum aimed to capture that very essence – a rapid transition into a definable position ensuring long-term organizational success through intelligent human capital management.

The panel moderation was lead by our very own Hassan Bin Rizwan, VP International Channel Development. Hassan has acquired expert knowledge in transferring organizations through people development strategies, and has facilitated numerous events and summits in this field.

He led the participants and the thought leaders into discussing how to leverage on the current status of HR as a strategic partner. The panelists included:

Akram Durrani – General Manager HR, Wateen Telecom

Fariha Salahuddin – Head of HR & OD – Pakistan & Iran, GlaxoSmithKline

Brig. (R) Taimur Afzal Khan – Director Human Resources, Qarshi Industries Pvt. Ltd.

Kiran Khan – Manager HR & Admin, 3M

Faiez Seyal – Managing Associate, Ace Consulting Group

Andaleeb Abbas – CEO, FranklinCovey

The forum was organized by TerraBiz, one of the largest training, events, conferences organizers and leaders in PR, with over 250 events under their portfolio including the prestigious Convention of the Management Association of Pakistan and the first-ever conference on Digital Marketing in Pakistan titled Marketing 2.0 which saw the confluence of the top three names in the world of digital marketing – Google, Yahoo and Microsoft.
